About Heterogenous Hardware - Overview
What is Heterogeneous Hardware?
This refers to hardware that contains not one, but many different types of computing processors, such as multicore CPUs, GPUs, DSPs, FPGAs, and ASICs.
Each of these components has specific processing capabilities, so that certain tasks can then be assigned to the most suitable processor, therefore enabling performance and energy efficiency to be vastly improved.
The heterogeneous system will usually then employ a general-purpose processor, that will runs the overall operating system.
Some examples of Heterogenous Hardware:
- Texas Instruments OMAP
- Analog Devices Blackfin
- Qualcomm Snapdragon
- Nvidia Tegra
- Samsung Exynos
- Apple "A" series
